World's worst limerick
Albeit most heartfelt:
Today is the dark dawn of Gitex
We would all escape if we might, ex-
-cept we'd be fired
And never rehired
And so we must suffer this frightex*
(*rather more obvious rhyme censored here)

I love it. It makes me so not want to go. Great stuff
Well I'll be going for my first time and I fear it'll be a frustrating day ;-)
Being a Gitex veteran, here is my poetic contribution to this maddening affair:
Gitex and Shopper for the world of IT
Bring lots of dollars, and we'll buy you some tea
Sit down, have a smoke, let's show you our software
And see the dancers on stage, with their bright orange hair
We'll give you some bags, and some pens to keep
And you might find a keychain if you dig real deep
So many vendors, in such a big hall
But look at our booth, it's the biggest of all
Yes, parking is madness, so we parked in the rear
But thanks for your business, and see you next year.
whatever..im checking out the freebies.
Almost dreading going on Monday, but if you want to keep up in IT, you have no choice! And yes, shamelessly going for the freebies as well =)
since our conference is near the place, i might as well go there for the photos and freebies. :P
GITEX is utter and complete HYPE. barely 10% of the crowd that comes in know the 'I' in IT. Its become a jamboree for outside visitors to come and taste Dubai's much talked about "hospitality" if you guys know what I mean. Every year traffic at this time in a nightmare. The GITEX shopper is just an eyewash for all the vendors and distributors to sell their 'dead stock'. There are no 'actual' discount being offered and whoever flocks there does so out of ignorance, lack of proper information or just to see and hear the 'sounds and sights'. All the local press etc go all ga-ga over GITEX just because thats the politically correct thing to do. For those of us who been in Dubai for the last 10 years or so , WE SURE DO KNOW BETER.
Ha ha, frightexly funny!
I don't think it's as horrid as people make it sound. It's a nice show where you get to check out new stuff and showcase yours (if you're participating). Last year's wasn't that great.. but it's not always good.
I got a parking permit over there, so I plan to head over and check it out. On the other hand, I have dreaded the traffic so much that I decided to work from home today ;)
I got an sms advertisment on my mobile phone it says "Big sale at Cellcom, Rush now before stock finish (There is already a traffic jam near the road)"
this must be the most stupid add i have ever received.
I hope nobody living near gitex gets heartattack!!! How can ambulance reach them??
>>I got a parking permit over there
Mohamed - then you are automatically disqualified from being able to submit any opinion about GITEX!
Unless you have to suffer in the gridlock, sandy parking wasteland and long, hot walk like the rest of us ;)
SD, check out my own
geek version of gitex.
In the car on the way home tonight - in huge traffic jams that, like every negative going on, must somehow be attributable to GITEX - there was an excellent radio ad from Virgin. It went something along the lines of "why queue for hours in traffic jams to fight to see IT when you can visit our shop instead?" Oh so timely, and credit to their sense of humour!
come on..its only once a year for about a week..its not just the expats and locals..boom time for hospitality, F&B..etc And overall, not too bad..i give it 7 out of 10..keep up the great job Dubai! And Im sure the traffic situation will improves over the years...exhibitions and conferences are big biz ..Dubai has the potential to be the best in this region if not in the world..
Thy servants wait while their master bates!
Reading through some of the responses here, it does appear that even some of the so called Dubai intelligensia are living in 'cuckoo land'.. Sad state of affairs !
