Teenage terrors
Young people are misbehaving all over the Emirates this week - with two UAE nationals, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old girl - jailed for sending "dirty pictures" through their mobile phones.
"The Dubai Court of First Instance heard that one of the girl's friends was jealous of the relationship she had with her male friend. This friend tipped off authorities that the two were exchanging indecent material."
Frankly they deserve congratulations for actually getting Etisalat's MMS service to work.
An even more adventurous Ras Al Khaimah duo managed to steal Dh200,000 (approx US$50,000) from their parents to go on holiday to Syria. The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were stopped at Dubai Airport on the way to Syria.
"The police searched the bags of the first teenager and discovered a further Dh 17,000 in his luggage they found Dh182,000 in the other teenager's luggage.
"It was discovered they had stolen the money from their father's safes."

Congrats on an outstanding blog. I've just finished reading the complete SDD (Secret Dubai Diary), and I am impressed, amused and enlightened. Also, for the only time, the idea of visiting the place doesn't seem entirely terrible, so the UAE tourist board ought to sign you up.
Unfortunately, the UAE Ministry of Truth probably ought to have you crucified. Which is all good.
Thank you for your kind comments! It is definitely worth visiting the place, as long as you know the extent of what you're getting. If you wanted a more "authentic" Gulf Arabian experience, you might want to take in Oman (or even Yemen if you have the courage).
Otherwise in terms of stunning archaeological and natural attractions, I would recommend Jordan.
secretdubai's travel tips (above) are exactly on target. Jordan is tops, Oman a close second, and I hope to see Yemen before I quit Eastern Arabia and return to the U.S. for good.
For the 7% of Americans with passports, y'all come on down ya hear? The United Arab Emirates is a great place from which to launch a vacation. As you pass through stop in the airport bar to rub elbows with the GIs on furlough from Iraq.
