Cleaning up Khaimah

Not long ago, the wild wild western emirate of Ras Al Khaimah was fretting about its negative image in the media. This appears to have kickstarted a Clean Up Khaimah! campaign, with a rush of positive stories in the local press.

First, farewell to perversion: an intensive undercover operation has closed down intensive under-the-covers operations taking place at eighteen deviant massage parlours:

"It can now be claimed that Ras Al Khaimah is free of this malpractice," Najeeb Al Shamsi, Director-General of the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Department, said.

Secondly, goodbye to gambling: with Al Shamsi also shutting down a Masafi games centre, after finding it had become a gambling den for schoolchildren:

"The owners of games centres should realise that they damage the heart of Ras Al Khaimah society when they facilitate gambling," he said.

Thirdly, adieu to "shady" dealings: with small shops ordered to destroy unauthorised shaded areas created out front to sell goods or "allure more clients":

“Such activities mar the city's beauty and pose a serious threat to the public safety and well-being,'' a top municipality official told Khaleej Times on condition of anonymity.

So there we have it. Ras Al Khaimah - The Clean Emirate. There may be nothing left to do there, but at least it's spick and span.

Next thing would be an alien landing in RAK.

In RAK there is a City Center shopping mall as well and you will see a Lot of Abu Dhabi registered Cars there, I mean really expensive cars.

When i saw that, i started to think! what are they doing here?

When I went inside the mall then It was very Obvious to see that was cooking there. (You are not kids you know what i mean)

Oh. it's all very well for you sophisticated Dubaians to sneer at us yokel RAKers, but let me add a couple of points:

Distance to beach: 1 minute
Distance to mountains: 10 minutes
Average commute time to work: 7 minutes, minimal traffic
Average expat accomodation: Large villa, possibly with pool
Average cost of decent meal: Dhs 25 - 2 people

And the really great thing:

Average time to drive from RAK to Deira City Center now the new 311 extension is open: 50 minutes (let's face it, Dubaians, some of you have longer commutes every day than that without leaving your Emirates)

So, you go ahead, you big city slickers, and laugh at us. However, when we see you stressed out in another massive traffic jam with mental drivers all around on your way back to the small apartment out in the desert that you can't really afford, please let us indulge ourselves in a touch of a smile.

Rakster, you and your fellow inhabitants of Ras Al Khaimah are indeed blessed !! I hope that things remain the same and that Ras Al Khaimah does'nt fall prey to the ' bursting at the seams' phenomenon that is now called Dubai.

i went to a hairdressing saloon, and after the haircut and when the hairdress was washing my hair, He rubbed his hands around back of my neck and said: Oh we also offer morroccon bath,,,

so i became shy and I acted bumb and deaf and i asked him whats this bath?

he said it will refresh my body!

and i asked: do i have to take my clothes off?

He said yes! and i told him i will come back next week.

The RAKster - hardly anyone is blogging from Ras Al Khaimah. Please consider starting a blog, so RAK is better represented in the UAE blogosphere.

This also goes for Fujairah and Umm Al Qawain - at least in English language blogs. Sadly I don't read Arabic well enough to know what Arabic blogs are out there.

18 Massage parlors? But the last time I counted there were 21. I can personally vouch for this but I will not disclose how. All I will say is that, the one that had the moroccan bath in it was very interesting and educational as it helped me re-evalute certain things in my life and what I will call pleasurable, Read that anyway you like but understand I am only kidding. 100%
