Satanic subcon cinema

Bollywood is evil. It is the "primary cause" for Indonesians landing in UAE jails, according to a senior Indonesian consulate official:

"We have 10 television channels in Indonesia and they show Bollywood movies at least twice a week. These women grew up watching and loving these handsome Indian actors," he said.

He added when the women arrived in the UAE, home to more than a million South Asians, they became star struck and overfriendly with good looking men of South Asian origin who would chat them up.

"If a cat is given meat, wouldn't the cat take it?" he said, quoting a familiar Indonesian phrase.

And so the poor hungry kitty-cats end up in Al Slammer. If only Salman Khan and Hritik Roshan could de-beautify themselves a bit, UAE jails would empty overnight.

Now I'm curious.. they actually jail women for having 'illicit relationships'? How come I've never run into someone who's done time for having a good time? ;) To put this more eloquently, what kind of people (income bracket, social class, etc.) that end up in jail for just doing what most people do anyway?

It's always nice to know that the consulate official of a country as big as Indonesia is every bit as naive as the women he describes.

Idiots, idiots, idiots!

I wouldn't be surprised if the consulate official and his family also watched Bollywood movies!

Perhaps the bollywood heros would do well should they be encouraged to wear burkhas....
...hmm...come to think of it, the audience would'nt mind much either !

Mohamed: if you were non-Muslim, European, professional white-collar and caught eg living with someone, chances are they would just order you to get married or find separate accommodation.

"Chances" being the point - it is illegal here, so you just never know. I haven't heard of anyone being dealt with in my time here, and there are gazillions of cohabitees.

Complicated by the new phenomenon of house and villa sharing - technically illegal (for anyone according to the terms of most leases, and for mixed shares by law) but what are they going to do about it? They can hardly get all draconian when they're trying to get tourists and villa-buyers here.

I am a newcomer to dubai and i dont know how can one function here if hes dating someone. I sometimes worry about kissing my girl in the car before dropping her off... it even feels rude if i dont!

As far as that comment from the indonesian consulate is concerned it is so simplistic that it is actually funny. I dont think all south east asian men here are as good looking as the bollywood ones, or is he implying that indonesian women are that easy that a man can say "hey baby, im from bollywood" and he will score?
If thats true im gona try that next ... hmm where can i find a mass of indonesian women?

for your infor..most of the maids from indonesia come from villages...simple lifestyle..simple dream/fantasy..they can be passionate about anything and everything...in a not too far island in the sun...lately many exchanges between dubai and this tiny country...over there on weekends(once a week) maids from philippines and indonesia will meet their boyfriend(s) from india, bangladesh, pakistan etc for a u know what...it's really demand and supply...not uncommon for them to be caught with pants down..however u cannot deny a certain charm.. this group of people frm the south..both animal and whispering sweet nothing..it's a fantasy for the maid....they remind me of the movie by woody allen: the purple rose of cairo...so do not mock at them..fyi many men from the south here engage in mutual DIY...

I think what we have here is a classic case of the law being applied to the poor and powerless.

I've known people who have been living together outside of marriage of course.. I've known people who have had a case of unwanted pregnancies with hospitals involved, etc.. again, outside of marriage.. no police involved, etc.

Certainly, those people I've known are not maids or laborers.. so their treatment may have been a bit different.

Today's paper also reported an ex-pat gaoled for drinking alcohol. This story appears at least monthly, and implies that anyone caught drinking alcohol will face immediate incarceration and deportation. Somehow, the bars and liquor stores have not closed. Strange.

Most laws here require draconian punishments for trivial offenses, and are enforced very sporadically, but if you are the one selected to be the example, it can be very unpleasant.

At least one European couple has been arrested for kissing (according to the Gulf News and some of their friends). So being fair-skinned is not always protection. Not being in the wrong place at the wrong time is.

Dubai is just like any other cities in the world. You'll find ample of adulterers and alcoholics. There's a lot of third sex in the city also. The only problem is when you get caught and the official is on his self-righteous mode, you're action will be the classic example of the satanic west.

Have you seen a gay local. I mean drag queen gay. It's funny at first but you'll seen realise how brave they are to break the rules of the land. Or they just have one hell of a wasta.

No wonder is the Consulate employee of Indonesia!

But since we are at it, I think Mr Bush and his Coalition is not any better than this Indonasian consular.
