Day on Dick Nob

A Wedgetail Eagle devours a roadkill kangaroo just yards away from our own feast of camel pie (a pang for the sandlands!) and glacé quandongs. The subject of conversation is the awkward plight of an absent cobber, Bruce.

As a true-blue okker Aussie Bruce has felt, throughout his fifty years on earth, a traditional and deep-seated antipathy towards those of a theatrical persuasion and those of a native complexion. It has therefore been something more than a slight shock in the past month for Bruce to discover not only a long-lost Aboriginal half-sister, but also that his son has become a card-carrying member of the Judy Garland Appreciation brigade. The Beer Salvation Army is expected make regular stops by Bruce's verandah to drop off cases of emergency relief through this difficult time.

Night falls as a golden moon rises. We unroll the swag under these strange southern stars, and contemplate the next day's trek back up Mt Buggery, where the airship awaits.
