The price of justice

Post two women's mobile numbers on the internet with a fake personal ad - AED30,500.

Press your four-year-old child's hand onto a red-hot oven top and beat up your wife in fit of drunken rage - AED2,000.

UAE justice system - priceless.

The logic behind these punishments bewilders me. I would like to see some sort of precedent set that sets the precedent on what should be the penalty. Else, it could make a comedy to add to the various guises showing on TV these days. We could call the show - Ali Al-Makhbeal.

And of course the man who burnt his son's hand was fined for that act, but not for punching the child in the face or for beating his wife senseless in a state of stupor.
I wonder why charges for those acts were not brought against him. Was the judge blind, deaf and dumb?
Disgusting!

rather than get absorbed in building the tallest, largest, biggest, first project .. they should really pay more attention to how systems are run here.

that was clearly a classical example of wasta. the drunken guy was obviously a non-local that has strong connections, so he got OFF the hook. meanwhile, that perv spreading girls numbers, was most probably a rich shiekh that can afford to be fined like that.

speaking as a local, that knows all the twists in local minds..it is considered a bigger of a catastrophe to bring shame to the family .. than physically assault someone. by creating a rumour and spreading a girls number, it doesnt only affect HER, but all her family.

oh well ..
