Sun sonnet
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more scorching and more full of sweat
Harsh desert winds blow most people away,
And winter's lease hath all too short a date:
Always too hot the eye of heaven glowers,
Despite the smog his fire burns like hell;
And everyone is desperate for cold showers,
But all the water's boiling hot as well;
And this eternal hellfire never fades,
The boys in blue are all roasting alive;
And e'en at night it's fifty centigrade,
Although officially it's forty-five:
If only we could breathe without A/C
We might endure this total purgatory
Thou art more scorching and more full of sweat
Harsh desert winds blow most people away,
And winter's lease hath all too short a date:
Always too hot the eye of heaven glowers,
Despite the smog his fire burns like hell;
And everyone is desperate for cold showers,
But all the water's boiling hot as well;
And this eternal hellfire never fades,
The boys in blue are all roasting alive;
And e'en at night it's fifty centigrade,
Although officially it's forty-five:
If only we could breathe without A/C
We might endure this total purgatory

wow.. very nice work SD :)
bravow.. bravow... (posh bravo)
i have one question though, are the boys in blue actually the boys in green? well at least if we refer to Dubai, or boys in gray for AD...
:)
The boys in blue = the poor scaffolding monkeys roasting away in the sun every day.
i'm with u!
i had commented b4 having my morning coffee.. not good!
actually don't think i would have figured it out even with coffee.
nice work though.. but global warming won't make it easier for these dudes. mind you, the higher the buildings are the less the temprature is because of altitute changes, and rarefaction of the air.
If only we could breathe without A/C
We might endure this total purgatory
Alas this wish cannot be so
Hence onwards and upwards now we go;
As we rise among the spires
It is a respite from all those liars;
Here we forget all our sorrows
and yearn for a brand new tomorrow;
where life's a pretty picture from the pages
and there are no worries about our wages;
I like!
Perhaps you should be the one called Shaykhspeara ey SD? :)
Wow - what's the world coming to?
Haikus spring hilariously from the keyboards of MamaDuck, Keefie, Grumpy Goat, Desert Lady & NZM; CG waxes lyrically about rural life; now SD is sonnet-ing; Buj is spreading joy with his music, and Shayhkspeara Sha'ira is determine to educate the masses with info on calligraphy, music, poetry, gravestone inscriptions and other fine arts.
Anyone would think that there was a plot to inject some culture into the UAE blogging society. Careful now - we'll be accused of being a clique!

Hey mind it, OK? Don't steal the thunder out of Culture City.
lol nzm! determined I am, apparently :)
It's good with a bit of culture every now and then. So who's the daddy of this clique?
Nice to see you branching out from the journalese. Don't give up the day-job yet, though!
Now, do you think you could rustle us up some james Joyce-type stuff? Could be really interesting!
Actually, I'm enjoying this blog immensely. Please keep it going!
