A valuable lesson

Education minister Dr Hanif Hassan plans to upgrade the Islamic curriculum. According to Dr Hanif, the current curriculum contains contradictory ideas and does not encourage creativity:

"It depends only on studying by heart without critical understanding. It's also a curriculum that depends on preaching and emotional speech, and this kind of approach can't build a stable mentality that deals with the values of Islam logically."

Amen.

Very sensible indeed. I wonder how he is going to deal with the 'other' thousands who believes otherwise.

Yay! ..atleast the 'by heart' motto of the students here would soon fade away!

that's one big wrong thing here..memorize and memorize and memorize without understanding. this is not only in Islamic curriculum...but in every school here.

Personally, I've really enjoyed all the Islamic classes we had in school.
They should REALLY work on the ARABIC instead!

Memorization is a big problem if you're looking for critical thinking. When I ask an essay question that slightly shifts the focus of the question from the review sheet, I'll get a certain percentage of the class that spills out an answer... not the answer to the question I asked, but the one they memorized.

By the way, dxbyeh, you'll want to improve your written English: "Your so cynical go back home" should be "You're so cynical; go back home." "Your" is possessive; "you're" is "you are." The good news is that your grammar is just as crummy as the average American English speaker. The bad news is the same... :)

Sorry for being OFFTOPIC..
This mornings' KT had a strange news..
" AJMAN — Laundries in Ajman have been instructed to separate the clothes of families from those of labourers and bachelors and use hot water to kill germs and prevent the spread of microbes."
- Does getting married increase ones' physical cleanliness?
why dont' they instruct laundries to wash each client's clothes separately if that is the case..
- And will the laundry get me new clothes if the clothes are damaged from washing in hot water in spite of washing instructions.. ?
and finally, a poll too
"We look forward to your comments, which will be selectively carried in our print edition with your photograph.
Do you think bachelors are less hygienic?"

Ah I prefer to send an offtopic comment on SD's blog rather than posting there.

a great effort. this method should be brought in those madrasas. we need to root out the cause of islamic fundamentalism and the best way is to educate those fundamentalists logic and critical thinking.

I know one of the people who were affected by this racism story. I am going to do an undercover check to see if this person is still working there or if the hotel manager of AL MUROOJ ROTANA is lying. I have reasons to believe he is lying because someone just told me the bouncer was there 2 nights ago.

Click310 - will your news organization be interested in that story ?

"2 x pair of balls to do it"

Hmm does that mean the person needs 4 balls? If thats the case, then you'd have to find someone for this undercover operation who's lived around Chernobyl. Or conjoined twins. :D

LOL! Thank ALLAH your back home.
Who cares if the organization ur working for loves or hate us? envy baby!! U said it urself, this is why you'll be very bias when it comes to the creditability of the news your delivering!! I feel bad for the readers, because of the crap your feeding them. Besides, what rules and laws are you talking about? What we have to run our country the way ur government runs urs or else your highness will label our laws as “crazy-ass laws” ?? There is good and bad everywhere!!!!
Btw, we already did buy new ports, where were you ?
PLEAAAAAAAAAASE, Like you have “the best” argumentative skills, for you to advise me how to argue. LOL!
I have nothing against people pointing out bad things in Dubai, BUT also instead of whining they should come up with solutions and suggestions.

The cases you’ve listed: not stoning people to death, he wasn’t stoned to death FULLSTOP ON THE LINE. The UAE doesn’t strictly follow Islamic rules. As for paying workers, the ministry of Labor is working on that, and this case happens all around the world. Besides, ur only hearing one side of the story. Do you call that confiscation?! when a sponsor who allowed a person to come in and work, he has the right to keep his passport incase anything happens. Of course you wouldn’t know because everything you know is from the NEWS.. LOL.. there are a lot of cases of non-local partners in a business running away with a lot loaned money, leaving the other partner in debt. And the list goes on… stuff like this happen everywhere not only in Dubai.

why is it when someone raises a good point, others overlook that and just pick on the typos and english mistakes that person made?

grow up seriously. at least we put an effort to learn the language.

--

moving on: if the new curriculum is going to include more critical thinking and will allow students to ask questions, and perhaps have practical exercises, then i think its a step forward.
as much as religion class was fun back in school, now when i try to remember the simple rules taught about religion ..i just cant seem to remember!

and i also think they should be MORE picky when it comes to choosing the teachers that will teach religion to students. because u either grow up hating it, or loving it. i remember out teacher violated like 17 of the islamic lessons we were studied LOL
