talking about z listers - did anyone see the Weekend magazine this friday (Khaleej times). The cover page was a photo of a Queen/ freddie Mercury look alike concert held in Dubai!

So here is a fun thing I discovered. ABN AMRO UAE lets customers apply for credit cards online here. The online form requires the user to fill in a lot of confidential information that can be used by fraudsters to steal the users identity. Seems to be happening a lot in the UAE lately.
So you'd assume that this information would be transferred from the user to the bank over an encrypted connection, an industry standard SSL connection. In case you don’t understand this part ask one of your IT guys, (or gals). Look at the URL - > it starts with http:// not https:// the former is an unencrypted connection where the data is transported over the internet in plain text and can be read by anyone. The later is an encrypted connection, and the data is transferred securely between the user and the bank. 100% of all online banking is performed over an encrypted SSL, (https://
), connection. Logging on to email, hotmail, yahoo , gmail -- look carefully. the password is always sent over an secure encrypted connection.
Why is that ABN AMRO-UAE uses an unencrypted data transport for key consumer information, data that can be misused by criminals? Is it because the bank does not give a rat’s arse? Or due to the fact that someone, somewhere in the bank is incompetent? Am going to go with the fact that there is widespread apathy towards the rights of consumers here, and the bank does not care.

had the mis-fortune to have lunch near this monkey, JD, in bld 8 in media city. he was loudly proclaiming something or other in a rather obvious bid to get people to notice him... we knew the face but were apalled at his grandstanding... we were sitting with some guys from south africa who did not know who he was other than a loud mouthed moron. there are some enlighteded expats that do live here - however jd will fit right in with the other chin less wonders who consider thenmselves of superior genetic stock.
