Porn in Sharjah

It just goes to show: you can ban shisha, ban t-shirts, ban alcohol, ban bars and nightclubs, ban internet cafes after 10pm, ban men and women from being "alone in public places" but you won't make people's instincts any less base:

Sharjah: The municipality destroyed over 8,500 pornographic CDs that were being sold in Sharjah, in addition to several other illegal items. It also seized 1,306 electrical equipment and 245 harmful toys. Tariq Ahmad Al Hammadi, Head of Monitoring Section at the municipality, said the drive is against contraband goods.

In fact people probably need porn all the more in Sharjah, given the only legs and rumps they get to see on a daily basis are those attached to a camel.

1. porn is illegal

2. pirated products are illegal

nothing wrong in banning porn, besides why would anyone buy porn nowadays, being in the UAE or any country for that matter. Sharing programs such as Limwire, kazaa, Ares, Torrent are doing a good job by supplying its users with a huge collection of porn.

o my gawd... no more electronic toys that are banned.... what will the sheikhas do... then they will ban certain vegis too... and sadly no more blow up dolls for " those very very bad single people living in the family buildings away from their wife and children and parents" how sad...now they will turn their attention to the fusturated women of sharjah... hmmm could be a fruitfull decision for some. human rights in this country ROCK. this is the best country with its best policies, .......... yes for those misundersnating the last line... Happiest guy in UAE:

So you are telling us that watching porn actually helps cutting down sexual crimes? Is that your raison d'etre for institutionalizing porn? If so, I think pornography should be made an institution in its own right. Oh, wait a minute, it already is in some countries.

Very paradoxically, sexual crimes seem to be highest in places where pornography is not such a vice. This is a unique line of reasoning - we need porn to help us maintain law and order in society!

Also, Al Republican, your French is off. :)

With respect, SD, you're just hyperboling: Sharjah is a pretty OK place to live. (I can attest.) Though the euphoria of checking out the female anatomy cannot compare to Adventures in Slick Dubai, we Sharjah freaks manage an eyeful every now and then.

Put it in context -- the overall social fabric of UAE -- and this city ain’t half bad as critics who've, presumably, always lived in Dubai, make it out to be.

al republican:

well the way i see it is like this:

if you have a book that you havent finished reading, and I take that book away, and ban you from reading it, then it will always take up an area of thought, and you will always wonder what is in it.. So by banning sex/porn, etc etc.. society will have very little mental strength left to operate normally, and most of their thoughts will be directed towards porn/sex.

Thats my theory of why the Arab World is so behind, preoccupied with insignificant issues.

P.S: I have no idea how this affects sexual crime.

Although, I don't give a damn if porn is legal or illegal, I fail to see the link with crimes comitted by sex predators.

P.S. don't forget to ban bluetooth, in order to eradicate the videos of locals enjoying the eastern european delicacies

(HEHEHEHEH)

Well, its a bit silly really all these restrictions vs the complete abandon and lack of any islamic morals/principles 20 minutes down the road.
Which brings me to another question which has been troubling me,if I may ask.
In any case involving narcotics, the "procurer/supplier", gets a harder sentence than the user.

Why is that when Pork is haraam then a supermarket(supplier) can sell it in an Islamic country?

Same way Dubai inspectors take care of the Bur Dubai and Baraha areas in town. They patrol the areas and ask the customers to make the choice hastily and just get inside your transport medium asap with your selection.

No wonder u see the huge influx of people into dubai especially on weekends they all come here to get their dose of the female pulchritude

News Snippet : Friend of mine was picked up and made to enjoy the sharjah cop's hospitality for a whole night. His crime was that he had a tattoo on his arm and a earring while shopping in Al mullah.

Fellow Atheist:

I read these facts in a class I took in University, PSYC 333. That class dealt with crime and punishment and needless to my professor and I had some really heated debates hehe.

You can read a paper by Charles Winick, which is just 20-odd pages titled "The Relationship between Non-enforcement of State Pornography Laws and rates of sex crimes arrests". Quite a mouthful!

Some of the highest rates given of sexual assault are states in the US and some scandinavian countries.

Cheers.

Issue I guess goes beyond subject at hand, it is to what extent the state under pretext of religion will interfere in personal life, to make it as miserable and unhappy as possible. This is a place known to be founded on such philosophy, the whole place, not just sharjah, dubai is just a whilewashed version of the same and if you get caught they will give you the same treatment. If you dont see it then it is just the dubai marketing getting the better of you. What people can or should do in private life is also strictly under govt domain, and all people landing here should know that.

as for the guy who spent time in jail for the tattoo and ear ring, i can imagine uae running a tourism campaign in europe and america, inviting them to visit the land of the biggest everything, with a meet & assist/ one day free stay in jail for all with tattoo and ear rings.

You know Al, you make these sweeping statements and expect everyone to believe them as undisputed fact. You may even believe them your self, though if that is the case, clearly you have never taken the time to check them out, perhaps because you are afraid the answer will not be in line with your agenda.

And don't start quoting crime stats because we all know they are fundamentally flawed due to the extreme under-reporting by women who are terrified of being accused of adultery and the impossibility of getting a conviction due the stupidity of needing to find 4 male witnesses.

How hypocritical!

Rose in Dubai:

I will give you the benefit of the doubt as you may have posted what you did without having read my other post. In any case what I said is by no means a "sweeping" statements. They are indisputable facts. Crime rate IS low in most of Arabia. Not just sex-related, but other crimes as well. Saudi Arabia has consistently had the lowest crime rate of all countries in the World.

Allow me to give you an example of a sweeping statement that you make:

"...the extreme under-reporting by women who are terrified of being accused of adultery and the impossibility of getting a conviction due the stupidity of needing to find 4 male witnesses."

Thanks for your circus of ignorance! Rape does NOT have to be proven by "4 male witnesses". I can hardly blame you for this ignorance because your media teaches you this. I am pretty sure all your buddies believe in this, too. I can give provide you a link of a country like Pakistan where the hudood laws have been enforced (lamely, too) in such cases of rape and you can read for yourself that such is not the case. But, I am pretty sure you will be lost before you even finish the first paragraph as you would not have the foggiest about the nomenclature of Islamic Jurisprudence (let alone understanding the text).

Try learning about Islam from learned Muslims rather than relying on your media.

"Really you can download porn from limewire? HOW?
(HEHEHEHEH)"

where have you been, dude? seems you're the only person who doesn't know how easy it is to download porn from limewire.

you can also access to tonnes of photos if you join yahoogroups containing adult materials. well, just search in yahoogroup all those containing adult materials. as soon as you search it, use any explicit keywords, a lot of 'em will appear, just send email to subscribe. i know when you open it, the site will be blocked. What you have to do is send an email to the group example: arabporn@yahoogroups.com just add -subscribe to every address: arabporn-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and a confirmation letter will be sent in your inbox. after approval, you will receive all the porn photos you want. hahaha
that's what i've been doing while i was there. although i had unlimited access to all these sites considering that i used to be stationed in dmc. damn, why do they have to block all those sites when people in the freezones can access it? funny, ey?

let me know if you have more questions on how to easily access porn materials. i might be able to help you point which yahoogroups sends the best pics in town. lol

funny still how these porn materials are being banned in uae where a lot of people have been suppressed which leads them to perversion. was surprised how i was harrased by several pakistani taxi drivers there - even when i myself am a male. makes you wonder, are they that desperate and perverted that any holes will do?

So you can see, that we all practise our levels of prohibition as we deem fit.

Hahaha, well done! :)

At least we have confirmed that rape is pretty high in Scandinavian countries (always rising compared to previous years). Incidentally, it also has the highest rate of suicides. Also, very, very incidentally, Islam happens to be spreading fastest in Scandinavian countries ESPECIALLY AMONGST WOMEN :)

It is funny that you had to quote an anti-immigration website, but if you really are sincere in reaching to the truth, you will know that it is not just immigants from Muslim countries, but indigineous Scandinavians as well as immigrants from other non-Muslim countries who are contributing to this problem there. After all, rape in the Scandinavian countries has been a problem for CENTURIES.

Then again people like yourself are known for their ostrich-like approach - dig your head into the Earth when confronted with facts. I will look on the brighter side and am glad you got to learn something new!

Just to put things in a different perspective. i agree,
banning pornography in muslim countries have made it a safest haven for women so they can even walk around nude, the abaya is just designer fashion accessory.

also, becos of lack of porn, there seems to be some miscommunication among most men here, they seem to think that the only place to put it in is the backside of other men, going by most rape reports here. hence women are very very safe. god save the camels.
as for rape in these countries, it goes beyond physical, into the metaphorical. religious diversity, culture, art, music, social freedom are raped everyday into non existence. and we talk about how lack of porn makes life better.
there are fewer crimes in jail than outside world, obviously. and you are all living here in a jail in middle east. so any comparison to crime in civilised world just pales into stupidity of the ignorant.

Good for you. sorry didnt know youre married, so you dont probably need those things. You have your hubby to provide your needs.

I know you should look after your kid's internet habits. A lot of these kids nowadays are so techie that parents won't have a single idea what they're up to in the interenet. quite a responsible parent you are. Have this officemate here in manila where she allows her 12 years old with unlimited access, and this parent ignorant with a lot of things in the internet, didnt figure out that his son has accessed a lot of porn materials. Only was she able to know when i checked her computer full of internet sites stored in the history. i know, it's alarming and scary too to raise a kid at this internet generation. parent's should always be there to guide their kids. hmmm

To Kaya and the anonymous person:

What you 2 are talking about just goes to show that the government's decision to ban pornographic websites and its proxies are not really such a bad idea after all. God save Etisalat!

Kids using the internet need to be administered. Even though I am not married yet, I plan to have my computer/laptop in my room. If my kids want to use it for any reason (games, homework etc) they will be asked to come into my room and use the machine for their work/entertainment. No matter how "techie" kids become, this is one effective mechanism of making sure that kids are not watching what they shouldnt be watching at home at least. It helps that the internet providers in this country have a strict policy on such issues.

It takes the extra-ordinary kids (and grown ups too!) to go the extra mile and bypass proxies via VPN clients or other means. The idea is to make it as hard as possible for children of young age to access such material. Obviously, when kids turn 16 and above, some level of independence creeps in and one can't really monitor them completely. But, a valuable lesson is inculcated into kids by then.

What I find weird about porn protagonists is that most of them have active sexual relationships (or so they claim!). I just don't understand why such people are SO desperate that they not only go around having sex with multiple partners, but watching, promoting, bragging and talking sex all the time too!

good heavens, is porn illegal?

now i have to resort to:

a) logging into www.dailymotion.com and typing any random word like girl, sex, boobs, sexy, bikini, strip.

b) going down to my friendly neighburdubaihood hotel and sampling some russian salad.

c) or maybe knocking the doors of my friendly lebanese neighbour and asking one of her eight friends to play some chess with me.

d) heading over to trilogy or 360 degrees and having assorted body appendages all over my face, hands, hips and unmentionables.

Alas porn is banned. Life will never be the same again!
