From fantasy to fake reality

If there weren't already enough Z-list celebrities flocking to the sandlands, boyband member-turned solo star Jamie Kane has apparently been staying at the Royal Accord Hotel in Dubai:

"The Royal Accord, Dubai's most luxuriant hotel, welcomes you! At the Royal Accord we offer you a stay that is second to none. With our wide range of luxury suites, spas and specialist facilities we can cater for your every indulgence."

But Jamie Kane is not just a Z-list celebrity, he is a fake Z-list celebrity, part of a BBC interactive game, staying in a fake hotel existing only in cyberspace.

The surreal irony of non-existent people staying at non-existent hotels in Dubai is enough to make anyone book into the Accord's US$1450 a night Royal Suite and never come out.

sandsoftime: fantastic to get another emirati blogging (especially in English so we can all understand it!) I've added your blog to my UAE Bloglines guide, when I get round to the next edit of the other guide I'll put it there too (also I'll know a bit more about it then!)

Do you plan to enable comments on your blog?

Do you think a branding agency got paid millions of dirhams to "conceptualise" it?

snow white, the hotel was most likely originally called Royal Accord International. But a few clever folks skillfully chopped off the last word and renamed it the Royal Accord. And pocketed several million while at it.

Now that's plain funny.. the text on the Royal Accord website goes on about the hotel whereas the Arabic text says (basically): "The Royal Accord is not a real hotel. It is a fictional hotel created for the interactive game 'Jamie Kane' on the BBC website. Players must enter the hotel and find the keys hidden inside".

I don't think Jamie Kane is fake...check out what I found on another blog site: Narcoleptic Barracuda. I don't know, I'm scratching my head a little on this one now that I've read this guy's responses.
