Time for thyme
Lola LebCan is tucked away in a corner of Goodies cafe, Wafi, tucking into some fresh zaatar salad. Zaatar, which is literally the Arabic for thyme, is usually used to mean a dry-ish spice mix made of dried thyme, sumac and sesame seeds, which is sprinkled onto olive-oil-brushed flatbread.
Lola's zaatar salad is actually a bowl of fresh thyme, deep green and pungent; olives and tiny slivers of red onion sprinkled with sumac. A very healthy dish, and excellent for digestion.
But that is not why Lola is munching on it. Just before arriving at Goodies, she made the fatal mistake of walking too close past a reeking oud shop. Occasionally lovely in delicate doses, a over-strong waft of the burning agar wood can choke the senses for hours.
"I nearly died of oud," she comments, chewing her bitter herbs to try and rid the aroma.

Hi SECRET i love your blog.
can you please add mine above as a link on your UAE blogs?
thanks!
You mean to say you missed GN's front page photo of jacko in Dubai?? You must be really old or very short sighted to miss a chance to rib the number one pedophile....errr...I mean singer in our time.
jacko in dubai is old news.
i had posted in one of the blogs here earlier that he's in dubai as anonymous but no one responded.
Maybe it's because no one really cares?
Interesting... I never knew that there was a zaatar salad as well! I love the zaatar n cheese sandwich tho!
The best shawarma I ever had was in Limassol, Cyprus.. and it's pretty expensive there.. can't remember the name of the place, but it's worth flying all the way there for it... well, the beaches too ;)
But back to the subject, yes, those oud places have excessive odors which would make most people sick. I for one get instant headaches because of strong odors (good or bad).. a woman with a bit too much perfume can cause this.. and those places definitely do a good job at it. I avoid them at all costs!
Pizza Express...has one of the best salads....in town..lots of greens...fresh and crisp...at 32Dhs..a steal...
i was wondering when Lolalebcam was going to make another cameo appearance.
sorry who's lolawhatzaname? pls enlighten..thanks
