Virtual blackout

Spinster schoolmarm Margery flies in to the sandlands once more, for another shot at a real life version of Sheikhs and Desert Love. Fahd's demise has sadly thwarted her plans for any lyrical lovemaking, with karaoke cancelled UAE-wide.

The demise of a submarine cable has also thwarted pretty much all email (POP and webmail), messaging services such as irc and MSN, and P2P downloading:

"The redundant links deployed by Etisalat for such an eventuality has meant that normal Internet browsing and essential traffic will continue to work smoothly. eCompany stated that there was no service outage. However, certain traffic related to applications like gaming and peer to peer for customers has been affected."

So glad to see you're back.
Talking about blackouts, has this story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4740699.stm - gotten any coverage in Dubai? What do ya make of it?

(sorry anon... breaking the thread here)

e-company-racketeer corp's just copy/pasted the same notice from back in March (or was it april?) Many web-sites (from certain regions)are NOT working.

Thought about calling their help desk again but its useless - they told me yesterday that "there is nothing wrong with the service whatsoever!!

and they say this place is like singapore????

I couldn't use gmail until I changed my LAN settings on Internet Explorer.
MSN works too after you change the proxy settings.
Except it keeps logging you off every now and then.

SD, there seems to be a problem with my blogger account, I can't log in. It keeps coming up with this error message "user name not found".
Very strange.
