Demons of the desert

Lock your windows and leave a light on, the ghosts of the sandlands are moving in...

At least according to this spooky discussion. One allegedly haunted place is the now-demolished Al Khan area of Sharjah, where it was "normal to see things climbing the trees":

"[My brother-in-law] told me that his mother was sleeping and she heard a heavy knock on the door and she thought it was his father, he usually would come in late but when she opened the door, he saw a dark tall thing with no teeth, red eyes looking down, she fell sick for 3 months."

Another creepy tale takes place on Ajman beach:

"They were chilling near the beachside and that is when they noticed someone walking towards them in black from far. When this figure walked towards them and came closer they realised it was a ‘lady’. She was covered from head to toe, only showing off her eyes. My friends felt weird for she didn’t look like a nasty one and they got curious why she was all alone at ‘Ajman beach’ that late.

"Suddenly they felt her pace had increased and that she was walking faster and 3 of them noticed at the same time that her hands were extraordinarily longer! Until when they saw her hands were growing and they were as long till her knees is when they realised that they should simply ‘RUN’!"

There's plenty of eeriness in Dubai too:

"There has always been this small enclosure of trees in Nad al Sheba with a fence around it, like a thick group of them, no more than I'd say 10 square metres. And every blue moon or whatever there is like a candle sitting on the floor."

Its almost time for the Dubai Shopping Where we are offered lots of chances to win cars, gold etc. Anyone know if gambling is only permitted during the festival or is that Raffles are OK in Islam?

Welcome to the Gulf folks! This stuff is normal here, especially in Oman. But dont worry, they are only Jinn (genies) so dont get ur knickers in a twist.

However these creatures are best avoided. Most are non-corporeal (have no substance) and wont bother you BUT some can make themselves solid and like humans, like to start trouble. Thus locking doors is not going to help.

Folklaw has it, that they inhabit the desert, graveyards and toilets.. so that could confirm scarlettepimps theory that one of them could be Jacko.

He certainly has a face like one.

Hahaha - good grief. People will believe anything. Especially here (magical levitating villa complex anyone?), the land of "where it's a privelege to live"

Scary looking women with bloodshot eyes, eh? Knocking on doors, too?

Sounds like the Chinese hookers who hang around Golden Sands.

Construction worker killed in Dubai? Now, that is spooky, what with the impressive HSE legislation in place which renders workplace accidents a thing of the past!

Construction workers getting killed is normal, but not the way this guy died. The story goes that this healthy laborer literally droped dead from a heart attack while in his vehical, i think it was the bulldozer. A short time later it happened to someone else in exactly the same manner at the roundabout.

True or false? Walah I dont know..I think the story has been exaggerated, but I do believe in the existance of Djinn as they are mentioned in many Islamic texts including the Quran.

For the non-muslism here Djinn are not the Ghosts of dead people nor are they creatures that live in bottles and grant you three wishes..

Secret D. We are not going to give Balushi the benefit of the doubt on this one, and assume the meaning of his comment was just lost in translation...?

Nope - I'm just permadeleting most of his comments. He's just deliberately trolling. Pretty much nothing he posts is "normal", it's all designed to be as offensive as possible, even when wrapped up in "humour". I left some of his comments in the other thread, and then he kept getting worse and worse.

@SD aww u ought to leave his comments. Its very stress relieving for the rest of us. Mainly because him being the uneducated wanker he is, we can diss him and he would never know.
Oman has a very heavy "BLACK MAGIC"'background. Mostly to do with Salalah, and it being the abode of a famous magician. This is why the women of Salalah wear such long jalabiyas esp in the back. It wipes out their footprints when they walk. Legend has it that magicians can cast spells on you by reading your footsteps.
Or theres that famous "WELL OF BLOOD" at Fanja where inevitably accidents take place on full moon nights and the "WELL" fills up with blood.
Theres that massive villa on Qurm Khuwair highway which no one has ever lived in but every evening there a light burning.( Must be a Phillips energy saver...)
The OMAN FLOUR MILLS site, where there is an area no matter how many times they have tried to construct on it , SOMETHING "BAD" happens.
Brrrrrrr.... its full moon tonight folks.

I caught Balushi's comment and it was just plain rude and racist. lol @ kaya and the 'philips energy saver'. I can see how someone who doesnt know any better can assume that a light turning on and off by itself is indeed jinn or majic ;)

I never used to believe in witch craft but for the past few month strange things are happening that I am starting to believe. First, I met people with power who can see and tell you if something bad is about to happen to you. I was told someone has visited the witch woman to destroy my life but I didn't believe that.. They offered me protections and asked if I want to retaliate to that person but I only agreed with protection as I didn't see any reason to refuse but didn't agree the retaliation.

Since then, I am starting to get bad signs, see strange things at night. Not comfortable with life etc... For the last 2 weeks I see a blackman's vision standing in-front of me at all the time. This blackman keeps on reading and flash some stuff over me.. I can feel those stuff splashing over my face. I see him at night with eyes like those of wolf and it never let me sleep at night. I feel like he is rasing my soul so that he can manipulate me. Don't know what's gonna happen if they successed!...

I don't understand why should someone wants to do this to me. I am not rich, neither have done any wrong to anyone. I am a simple man who simply work to earn a living.

Anyone with similar situation to share?.

It was me WHO visited the WITCH WOMAN (but honestly I thought they were EAGLES fans).
the "BLACK MAN" visions is very simple. STOP LOOKING IN THE MIRROR and WANKING!

I was thinking that balushi's visions were either the result of two much drugs or perhaps someone really did put a curse on him. I suspect someone from the UAE Blogging community or some other UAE online community that he has been trolling.

balushi is crazily funny man! he doesn't even realise how funny the crap he spews out is...he's like our resident djinn of SDD. A bit like the local version of Topper in Dilbert.

Jokes aside folks, although there may be a fair bit of exaggeration or 'creative recounting' of incidents, ghosts and djinn and black magic all exist. Let's not forget that the middle east has always been familiar with the dark arts.

Thanks to CG for her earlier comment about Abu Kadra and his roundabout. I personally don't believe in this stuff, but I realise that Jinn do exist (Koran etc..) anyway back to Abu Kadra, I think this stuff is true, or rather it has been observed that weird things happen around those trees, and I've seen them fenced off for many years. Not sure what's happened to them now due to the Emirates Road etc.. anyway I also remember I learnt about it from an article I read in the Gulf News, long before they had a website etc..

I read it in paper form. It was quite freaky. Apparently people tried to remove the trees but they would grow back, also the stuff about the smoke. Then they just put some barbed wire around them and let the trees do their own thing!

I did a story on the ‘nad Al Sheba’ r/a, which supposedly bled (red sap of some sort) on the full moon. The story is, the tribal leader died defending is kinsamn and was buried there.
Because his grave had been there for many years, the ruling Sheikh had allowed the grave to rest there. What happened later...wellm it turned into Emirates Road.
The haunted villa in Mirdiff was another one, but now has been revamped into an expat's home.
The Rak caves in the mtns was another one, but no able answer has ever come from there. A good story to pursue frankly...

Every culture has its own share of paranormal phenomenon and I'm curious about the local ones. Last week I woke up at about 2am and looked out my flat and saw someone's shadow on the roof deck of the flat across the street. At first it looked like a man walking across the deck but then it picked up speed and started doing zig zags until it disappeared. It took me some time to realize that the "shadow" might not be human at all.
