Manic Sunday

Five o'clock already
And the mosques are all beginning to wail
I was kissing Valentino
And they caught me and they threw me in jail

But I can't be late
Because I gotta drive Al Shittihad Road
These are the days
When you wish it all would go and explode

It's just another manic Sunday
Wish it were Friday
'Cause that's my dead day
My don't-get-out-of-bed day
It's just another manic Sunday

Have to cross the bridge again
Gotta be at work by eight
And if I had a sheikhmobile
I'd still be three hours late

'Cause the Sunny in front
Can't go faster than two miles an hour
And the roads are all blocked
Where they're building yet another bloody tower

It's just another manic Sunday
Wish it were Friday
'Cause that's my brunch day
My all-I-do-is-lunch day
It's just another manic Sunday

All of the time
Why do they seem to want to drive us out
Of this town?
Nobody cares
That the rents are up
And the pay is down

They tell us when we start to moan:
"If you don't like it, you can go home"
Time it goes so slow
When you're stuck in traffic...

It's just another manic Sunday

Nicely written.

But, what if you're one of us locals complaining about these very same things. Kissing Valentino and getting thrown in jail for it, or trying to survive the traffic next to those bloody towers, and the high rents? (I'm talking about those average Aboods, not those defecating gold.) What do people like us do?

Samawel: [...]What do people like us do?

Put up with it, there is not much anyone can do apart from ranting and raving here and on other blogs.

Come and join the party here. Your presence here shows that change is overdue. Your country needs you.

Thats great, I hate that song, but it's a bit better this way! I'm glad AD isn't as bad as Dubai... yet. sigh. but as with most things, I blame this problem on foreigners as well!

"If you don't like it, you can go home"

Good advice, maybe you should consider it. just a suggestion.

You talk about it. When I studied in the US I didnt complain of the crap I saw because I dont have a right to, not my country (something westerners dont understand because they have made themselves the world police and must dictate everything to THEIR liking)

You, as a UAE citizen, must talk about these things, remember, it's in your religion as well? we do today what the ottomons came up with, we put up with unjust rulers (and unfit ones) but remember that idea came up later in Islam as a way to control people. you shouldnt object to unfit rulers, just pray for them.

Well you know what, praying without action will get you nowhere. Dont just blog hiding behind the PPC. Voice it to your friends and their friends, you co-workers, your classmates. I know that here, there is a stigma that you should never question the govt, but remember that at one point Muslims (like Ibn Sina) advocated greatly questioning everything, EVEN ISLAM ITSELF!

I read this blog because it's funny, the truth though is not this guy, or any other foreigner means anything to UAE policy, they are basically meaningless, work horses to be used then discarded to the glue factory. basically they rant and rant and get nowhere.

You WILL get somewhere, remember that the UAE went from nothing to everything in 40 years, something that the US had over 200 years to do. that is not natural, and thus crap happens.

Voice your opinion, and people like us will change this country. it's 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, but we'll get there. ;)
