Dubai: A Dubai court granted a divorce to a 28-year-old Arab woman because she was offended when her husband said she looked like a mouse.
The court said comparing the wife to a mouse was an insult to a "mother, wife and a woman".
"The mouse is a disgusting animal. A woman should not be compared to it or any other animal," said the lawyer of the woman, a mother of three children.

In some cultures, being called a "mouse" by your loved one is something very sweet and an often used "term of affection". At least for females :- )
So what on earth is this woman's real problem? If she would be a Western woman I would say that she probably did not get the right type of attention from him (that special sport that never ever happens in the UAE), since she was local he obviously did not give her enough cash for shopping. Bad excuse for insulting the rodent community – let's have some animal rights please!
I visited Haya's website, and she thoroughly is a modern woman. No Burqa or Hijab anywhere in the gallery section. Infact you couldn't even tell they were arab.
The only hint of Arabia was the servant decked in traditional Arab clothing.
I'll go so far as to say the pictures were photoshoped to make them look even more white. She even died her hair brown.
I really liked this quote from the website. Its quite funny in a stupid way, but it fits the people who live here.

Now to all those traditionalists who jump through hoops whenever modernity is put forward; I put you the evidence infront of you. All the Arab leaders, monarchies, sheiks and so forth. None of their ladies wear the Burqa or even Hijab. Some of them openly dont wear them, and some wear them in their home countries loosely, and they take them out once in the plane to other countries.
Now feel free to wear what you want, but please dont see other people as bigots e.g westerners who discourage it, or argue against it. Most of the people that matter in your own countries do not wear one either. I never see you make cases against them.
Infact your own leaders like none traditional women when it comes to choosing spouses, or lovers. Yes I said lovers, concubines aplenty in the higher echelons.
Before labelling everything western, please realise the whole world is western now. Look at all the wonderful western technology in medicine, agriculture, radios, TV's, travel, aeroplanes, cars to just about everything.
They even discovered the oil you sit upon, they discovered uses for that oil, they further dug it out for you, and still dig it out for you. All that is western technology. Remove the western manpower and you will be back to eating your grub, watered down with camel milk. There is way too many of you now as well, the desert wont support you.
See what we did to Saddam. This guy terrorised you, made life hell for you, slaughtered you, invaded you, and threatened you no end. All of you were shitless scared of him. You thought he was invincible.
Look what we did to him, we sent a small army and whipped him till he shit, then whipped him for shitting. That is what we can do. We are almighty powerfull compared to you. Given this why dont you try to copy us, atleast copy our technology, democracy, sense of fair play, rule of law, decency, human rights etc. Why dont you do that. I wouldn't be so sure. I'm not sure she is the kind of person to accept such a thing without earning it - she could still hold the truck driver presidency without it. There's perhaps a slim chance she accepted a kind of honorary licence in order to become president, if it was a requirement for them.
But I also wonder if the vehicle licence is somehow associated with her horseriding, perhaps being for some kind of vehicle to transport horses?

Mind you the British are not averse to some aristocratic favouritism too. Just like Haya has won sports personality of the year many times in Jordan. This year in Britain Zara Phillips daughter of anne won the award. She won it in the same field. Now of all the people in Britain who deserve this award, a member of the royal family ends up winning it through an elite sport; how dumb is that. I mean in equestrian sports you need serious dough to compete. Me think all the kids that play Sunday league deserve it more than her.
Still though, nothing beats what happened in Iraq. Uday fired hundreds of members of Iraq's press syndicate for not sufficiently praising his father and the government. He then was named Journalist of the Century by the Iraqi Union of Journalists for his "defense of honest and committed speech".
People here suffer from a severe case of leader worship. the funny thing thing is those leaders hold them in contempt. The average dude here is completely impotent on things that can influence his life. If he wants a job he has to get wasta (influence), if he wants university same thing, advanced medical care same thing. I believe these things eventually grind you down, so you oppress the easy targets, beginning with women, and then those far away western people. Never mind that it is the west that saves them... from themselves.

Last time I checked, the US was in a REAL mess in Iraq. The surge hasn't made too much of a difference now has it?

To INMOTION: I totally agree with you that that the comment was tactless, but believe that those who wrote it did not mean to insult your religion. Obviously it was a mere association as we in the West would refer to a "mousy woman", a nondescript or better "dull and boring person". So maybe not only the "cover" was boring, but whatever she was wearing underneath was boring as well – at least for her guy.
I also went to The First Lady's website and took a look at her beautiful photos. (of course they received a re-touch - that is absolutely normal :- ) ) Certainly she is far away from a "mousy woman" and very beautiful in her own special way. In addition her achievements should not be downgraded – at least she has made some on her own. By the way, recently the Egyptian cultural minister made some sort of deragotory remarks against muslims. There was hardly any protest, and the one there was; was the impotent kind. There were no demonstrations or any public order trouble. Could it be that your protests would have fallen on deaf ears, and ended up in prison along the way. Or do you reserve your protests for when the pope makes a comment to his "OWN" flock. I think you protest the west cause atleast we hear you, we give you the time of day. While your own leaders just care for themselves and their material being.
Oh, and by the way did you know women in Egypt are banned from wearing the Hijan when they present on national Televisions. Now Imagine a western news organisations having a similar statute; your friends would be rioting won't they.
Also recently in the news Tony Blair was reprimanded for his visit to Jordan. He met Abdallah; Abdallah wanted Britain to help Jordan with Aid. On the way Back for Blair, Abdallah offered him his private Jet to travel with his family. There was a scandal over in Britain. Now there are lessons in this story, Britain the far richer country has blair making his own way in economy. Abdallah, leader of a dirt poor snad rock, has his own plane, and he can use it as he wishes, including offering lifts to his friends.

As funny as it sounds, today I had a post (my posts are in Arabic) about a similar subject. Muslims believe that mice are originated from the lost tribe of Israel. The reason behind this believe is that the prophet found out that mice do not drink camel milk but enjoy goat milk. Since the jews at the time, before wiping them out from Medina, had similar taste; the prophet came up with his theory. What's up with this moderation thing girl?
