A $45 million Tiger

Forty-five million dollars - that's how much Dubai is rumoured to have spent to beat China for the world's first Tiger Woods Golf Course:

While specifics aren't known, Sports Illustrated cites rumors that Woods' end of the deal will be as much as $45 million (Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai outbid the interests of the world's other enlightened despots in China for the honor of building Woods' first course).

It's a solid bet that whatever the amount Woods pockets will be exponentially higher than the amount given to the hands who will provide the labor in sweltering heat to construct the course.

And another nice description of Dubai: "...a mixed steroid cocktail of Las Vegas, Singapore, and Bangkok."

An 18-hole in the Dubai summer just doesn't so that appealing. How much water will it take to keep all that grass green? It would really suck to be a caddie there . . .

they do see some potential future return form the investments, they cant keep relying on oil resources and tourism is already a well established industry for Dubai, it will further augment the cashing in process.

That kind of money is obscene............but...........if I was Tiger Woods, would I say "no" to the deal? Everything has price, especially in Dubai.

Hi,

I don't know if you guys have seen this already.

Dubai's Dirty Little Secret

I especially like this piece of info on the video - Shk Mo spent about $70M on horses in 2 days of shopping last year. And the Labourers make less than 0.50 cents an hour. Caring? Generous? Humanitarian? You decide.

Hmm, the elephant in the living room. Golf courses and water. Curious that this issue has NEVER been raised by any environmental group in the region. It's all plastic blue bags and dinky little recycling boxes at the NOO Dubai

2,500 renowned scientists say the earth is doomed and yet we continue to water acres of grass in a desert for a four-ball of gin swilling dodderers.

Aaaah -- isn't it grand living in the delusion that money that big is really spent on education, healthcare and infrastructure? Hah! At least they were honest ;)

I just dont get how people here seem to be shocked by this. I mean do you guys have memories of goldfish or something.

This dude wrote a poem, and turned it into an Island that Global warming or even a minor earthquake will submerge.

Now why would one be shocked that he spent chump change on a golf course. You say he spent 70 million on horses, hah! Thats nothing, he has a 200 million dollar Jumbo Jet just to transport those horses. I promise you I'm not making it up. He has a Jumbo Jet just for the horses. oh well.......I expect that expect that classic comeback....."you're just jealous cause you cant afford one". Only in the Sandlands.

Obscene... is exactly the right word, how can someone get so rich and let people die from hunger.

Again the familiar story of too much money to someone who does not really need it.......

But the part of the article which i really thought was crap was the phrase "...a mixed steroid cocktail of Las Vegas, Singapore, and Bangkok."

Dubai can try as has as it wants but it will never be any of these great cities, Las Vegas, Singapore, or bankgok....Please

These places have stood the test of time, Dubai still has to prove itself... a few tall builidings and shopping centres??? hhhmmmmmm

Ever thought of Dubai's contingency plan if any of the terrorists pass by with a gift or two. Dubai's tourism had suffered during the wars in the region, what would happen if some thing else happens, who would be buying these world largest XYZ's

i just dont know what to say....this is one of the hottest places in the world, no one can deny that, so why the hell would you want to play golf, for 6 months of the year it is too bloody hot to play golf, but the greeens willl still be green, it defies belief, global warming is not a conspiracy, it is happening, twats like these are the main conspirators, the one consoling thought is that the imminenet rise in sea level is going to totally mess up this place, guys, dubai is flat, falt and at sea level, hmmmmmmm...............possible outcome of any rise in sea level is a sinking dubai.............so unless you plan on building the world's largest sea wall in the near future you better start thinking globally, seriously, some people just think that the world exists for them...........
cant wait to leave here

Nice of the Sheik to send a little money back to the U.S. Besides, the golf course will probably outlive the horses he buys.

$45M..? Chump change.. Although Tiger Woods wont complain.

Wonder what the green fees are going to be like..?

Sometimes I think these guys pay these outrageous sums just to get their names in the paper so that people in the rest of the world will go "Wow, what a rich guy to throw around so much money"
