Fuming fools
In September 2004
They showed cigarettes the door
In just a fortnight
The fags were alight
And things were as fugged as before
In September 2005
They said that the ban would revive
But given their lies
No one was surprised
When eventually it never arrived
In February 2006
They were back to their fag-banning tricks
And once again nothing
Prevented the puffing
No laws, no ban and no fix
In May 2007
They yet again promised us heaven
At the end of the day
We know smoking will stay
Because they are gutless and craven
They showed cigarettes the door
In just a fortnight
The fags were alight
And things were as fugged as before
In September 2005
They said that the ban would revive
But given their lies
No one was surprised
When eventually it never arrived
In February 2006
They were back to their fag-banning tricks
And once again nothing
Prevented the puffing
No laws, no ban and no fix
In May 2007
They yet again promised us heaven
At the end of the day
We know smoking will stay
Because they are gutless and craven

"No thanks. I'm trying to give 'em up."
there r thousands of labours n workers in dubai who dont read papers or get to know the latest rules of govt. so they are sure to be the victim of fines... but to catch them the govt need to have more workforce n dubai is not having just a single street so that one offical is standin on side n other on the next end to monitor!... difficult.. no this is dubai anything is possible!! they will monitor with sensors sensing smoke level near a person and if the level is more the radar will detect the identity of the person by some technology like finding bluetooth devices in range from one mobile!! and the violators will have to pay fine before leaving the country or at the time of renewal of their bataka!!!! ha ha...
Craven "A", I hope SD. (Can you get those here?)
Here's hoping they don't ban the deadly weed. My home country's been thoroughly miserable since they stopped us puffing away in public.
Grumpy Goat: that's hilarious!
Think laterally, its an opportunity to kick it OUT !!! I smoked for 15 years, and gave up! its been a successful 10 years, and going strong! I am confident it will stay that way for rest of my life.
Total BS!
It's just another lame excuse to increase the price of tobacco, and the fools will still keep on smoking and we have to suffer from their puke smell.
Love the lament
Designated public smoking areas wouldn't help. Most of the building are not equipped with such provisions, and if they are to do that now, they will have to dedicate a separate ac system for it, otherwise the circulation is going to pollute the whole building....
On a lighter note I am wondering, is a 'fag' in British English the butt of the cigarette of the cigarette itself?
What I dont understand is how the non smoking rule is enforced and followed so strictly during Ramadan. It's not as if all visitors to a mall are fasting yet somehow the fear of God works better than a fine?
tobaaco use is only going to increase in dubai with the level of stress, and traffic frustation. Soon you will see smoking ranches and smoking city. Ciggerates is a huge bussiness and it cannot be controlled by anyone.
There was also a time before 2004 when they banned smoking (I think it was in all public places; if not then just shopping malls), I can't remember when but it lasted only 2 weeks before the FNC revoked it - people speculated that it was because many members of the FNC were smokers reluctant to give up smoking in those places.
I think it was in the mid-late 90's.
Yet another witch hunt of the innocent. Who will have the courage to make Sheikh Ahmed, Emirates, stop smoking in his no-smoking offices?!?
Having a 'no smoking' section in a restaurant or mall is like having a 'no peeing' section in a swimming pool.
I avoid restaurants that have a no-smoking section. I hate not being able to smoke before and after my meals. I'm a heavy smoker (a pack a day).
But, if that's all I have then that's all we have. I'll just have to live with it.
Perhaps Dubai restaurants and cafe's should start seriously considering outdoorsy type of establishments. Sort of like how the Mirdif Uptown Mall is. Very well designed.
